In this beginner-friendly guide, we walk you through the full editing process from import to export, using software that’s powerful enough for great results but simple enough to learn in an afternoon.

Step 1: Import & Organize Your Footage
First, gather all your clips, audio files, and images in one folder on your computer.
- Open Filmora and create a new project. Set your project to 1920×1080 (1080p) for YouTube.
- Click Import Media and select all your files.
- Drag your main footage onto the timeline at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2: Rough Cut — Trim Out the Bad Parts
The first pass is simple: cut out mistakes, long pauses, and anything you don’t want in the final video.
- Use the scissor tool to split clips at the points you want to remove.
